Fes to Midelt via Ifrane & Azrou Cedar Forest
Depart Fes at 8:00 AM for a scenic journey through the Middle Atlas Mountains. Our first major stop is Ifrane, known as the "Switzerland of Morocco" for its alpine architecture, clean streets, and European feel. Visit the famous lion statue carved by a German prisoner during WWII and stroll through the town's beautiful gardens.
Continue to the Azrou Cedar Forest, one of Morocco's most important ecological sites. Spend time observing Barbary macaque monkeys in their natural habitat. The ancient cedar trees here, some over 800 years old, create a magical atmosphere.
Cross the scenic Tizi n'Talremt pass with stops at panoramic viewpoints. Arrive in Midelt by late afternoon. This mountain town, situated at the crossroads of the Middle and High Atlas, is known for its apple orchards and mineral specimens. Explore the town or relax at your hotel with mountain views.
Midelt to Merzouga via Ziz Valley & Erfoud
After a hearty mountain breakfast, we descend from the Atlas Mountains into the pre-desert region. The landscape undergoes a dramatic transformation as we approach the spectacular Ziz Valley, one of Morocco's most impressive natural wonders.
We'll make multiple extended stops at panoramic viewpoints to fully appreciate the valley's scale and beauty. Continue to Erfoud, known as the "Gateway to the Desert" and famous for its rich fossil deposits. Visit a local fossil museum and workshop to learn about the region's ancient marine history.
Arrive in Merzouga in the late afternoon with plenty of time to enjoy a refreshing mint tea at your desert camp's base before the camel trek. The 1.5-hour camel ride takes you deep into the Erg Chebbi dunes, with a stop to watch the spectacular sunset. Arrive at your luxury desert camp for a traditional Berber dinner, live music around the campfire, and an unforgettable night under the Saharan stars.
Merzouga to Dades Valley via Rissani & Todra
Rise early to witness one of the Sahara's most magical moments - sunrise over the dunes. After breakfast at the camp, camel trek back to Merzouga village. Visit Rissani, the ancient capital of the Tafilalt region and the birthplace of Morocco's current ruling dynasty.
Continue to the dramatic Todra Gorges, where the Todra River has carved one of Morocco's most spectacular canyons. The cliffs here rise 300 meters on either side. Walk through the narrowest section and enjoy lunch at a nearby restaurant with stunning views.
Continue to the Dades Valley, known as the "Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs." We'll drive the famous Dades Gorges road with its hairpin bends and unique rock formations. Check into your kasbah-style hotel overlooking the valley for overnight.
Dades Valley to Marrakech via Ouarzazate & Ait Benhaddou
After breakfast with views of the Dades Valley, we continue our journey westward through the Valley of Roses. Arrive in Ouarzazate, known as the "Hollywood of Morocco" for its important film industry. Visit the impressive Taourirt Kasbah and explore the film studios where blockbusters were shot.
Continue to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Ait Benhaddou, the most famous kasbah in Morocco. This ancient fortified village, built entirely of mud and straw, has appeared in countless films. Walk across the traditional bridge, explore the narrow alleys, and climb to the top for panoramic views.
After lunch, cross the dramatic Tizi n'Tichka Pass (2,260m) through the High Atlas Mountains. The winding road offers spectacular views at every turn. Descend to Marrakech, arriving in the early evening. Your driver will drop you at your riad or hotel in the medina, completing your incredible journey.
